Tracking the Impact: citizen science evening kick-offs the surveying season of 2024

We are excited to welcome back our trained citizen scientists and invite newcomers to the project to see and celebrate what we have managed to find out so far, while also looking to help us ensure full coverage of wildlife monitoring across the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 2024!

Tracking the Impact is a landscape-scale, wildlife surveying programme that monitors breeding birds, butterflies and plants in the stunning landscape of the Chilterns. It is part of the Chalk, Cherries and Chairs Landscape Partnership Scheme, and, in 2023, we teamed up with the River Chess Smarter Water Catchment project to extend Tracking the Impact surveys into the Chess catchment.

At this event, we will showcase results from the project so far in a sit-down presentation, allow existing citizen scientists to share their experiences of surveying for breeding birds, butterflies and plants over the past two years. We will also provide you further details on Tracking the Impact survey methods and species identification training.

There will be plenty of time for you to ask questions, chat with other like-minded people from the community and register your interest in undertaking surveys in 2024.

This event will be hosted by Nick Marriner, Landowner Engagement Officer for the Chalk, Cherries and Chairs project, and Hannah Parry-Wilson, Citizen Science Co-ordinator for the Chess Smarter Water Catchment & Chilterns Chalk Streams Project.
