Step Back in time

Once chalk streams in the Chilterns were working rivers. Learn more about the once thriving watercress growing industry with a visit to historic Ewelme watercress beds or visit one of the many old mills that can be found on all Chiltern Rivers – Pann Mill, High Wycombe and Redbournbury Mill on the River Ver are both still working today.

Discover

There are nine major chalk streams which rise in the Chilterns National Landscape. Find out what makes these rivers so special by watching our short film.

Each of the nine rivers has their own history and special qualities. Take a deeper look at each of the nine Chilterns streams to uncover the story of each river.
