Perfect Picnics

For less energetic souls (or those with small children in tow) there are lots of places you can access the rivers easily for a play and a picnic. Popular spots include Denham Country Park on the Misbourne and The Box Moor Trust, Hemel Hempstead on the River Gade.

Wildlife Wonders

Chalk Streams are great places to spot wildlife. There are a number of riverside nature reserves in the Chilterns. Try Frogmore Meadows on the river Chess, managed by the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust.

Step Back in time

Once chalk streams in the Chilterns were working rivers. Learn more about the once thriving watercress growing industry with a visit to historic Ewelme watercress beds or visit one of the many old mills that can be found on all Chiltern Rivers – Pann Mill, High Wycombe and Redbournbury Mill on the River Ver are both still working today.
