Wild about Chesham Moor

Wild about Chesham Moor

Thanks to our friends at Maydencroft, and the amazing volunteers at the Chesham Environmental Group, the restored site at Chesham Moor is being given a head-start in its recovery:

The whole site has been seeded with three special mixes of native seed; 100sqm of wildflower turf, containing 29 different varieties of wild flowers and 4 grasses, has been laid along the bank face on both sides; we’ve transplanted flag iris and aquatic mint into the site from nearby on the Chess.

And with over 350 native wildflower and grass plug-plants being put into the marginal areas this week, we think that the place will look pretty special over the coming months.

Not only are the Chesham Environmental Group providing the tools and labour to plant, they are also keeping the turf watered though this warm weather – all to ensure the people of Chesham get the best from this project as soon as possible. Thank you to them all!

Still with the Chesham Moor project, we’ve had a few small groups making use of the new beach access and feedback has been really positive. It is important that children have access to the river so they can appreciate it and learn to how to look after it – hopefully we’ve made that a little easier both for local people and for schools.

And finally, in the next few weeks an interpretation board will be installed near the replacement footbridge to tell people a little about the history of the site, how it has been restored and to help further share the joy and wonder that chalk streams can bring.
